The Beaufort County Board of Education Executive Committee on April 29 previewed several executive-session items that the superintendent said will require deliberation, including personnel ratification, an operations contract and two property matters the board has discussed previously.
Superintendent Rodriguez told the committee the executive-session agenda will include "the personnel ratification, and adult ed and homeschool" matters and operations items tied to work at Ladies Island Middle School and the early-childhood center, plus a roofing consultant contract. He also identified "two properties" — including one in Bluffton and a second property referenced in the discussion — that the board will need to consider whether to pursue.
Committee members debated how those property items should appear on the public agenda. The chair and superintendent recommended removing the town names and using a neutral label such as "properties" so the board could discuss options without publicly identifying sites. One member suggested allotting extra time and starting certain sessions earlier because "some of these are gonna require some discussion." The superintendent agreed to work with staff to craft standard, non-identifying language for the agenda.
No formal action was taken in open session; the items were listed for executive session at the May 7 meeting. The committee set no vote on any property matter at the April 29 agenda-setting meeting and instructed staff to prepare confidential materials and recommended agenda wording for the board's consideration at the business meeting.
