The Beaufort County Board of Education Executive Committee on April 29 discussed a request to explore a satellite district office south of the Broad and agreed to gather more information before any decision.
Board member Ingrid asked the committee to consider a possible satellite office. Superintendent Rodriguez said the district has been searching properties to address growth in Bluffton and suggested there are sites of interest; he also mentioned a pre-K building in a more central area that could accommodate a few offices. Operations Chair Carlton cautioned against opening an early public debate on the topic along the 278 corridor, saying it could "unleash a Donnybrook of contention between the 2 segments of the county." He recommended folding the conversation into the district's strategic plan or at least preparing alternatives.
Members agreed the superintendent would explore options with Ingrid, Mr. Adi and the architects and report back; Carlton asked to participate in those discussions. The committee did not vote on a site or authorize any purchase; rather, members requested research and suggested staff return options and cost estimates for future consideration.
