Chief compliance officer outlines training, operations work; board accepts report

Autumn Sanson, chief compliance officer, reported to the State Board of Finance that she has collected statement-of-financial-interest forms from staff and that COVID-related disruptions have delayed work on an operations manual. Sanson said she plans to enroll in webinars through the Government Finance Officers Association and the Government Investment Officers Association focused on market risk and internal controls, and she described outreach to other state treasuries for examples of operations manuals and risk assessments.

"My greatest help has come from West Virginia," Sanson said, noting that staff there shared operations manuals, internal control guidelines, and risk assessments. She said she will continue to work with Grant and Jason (staff) to determine the best approach for implementing compliance and internal-audit practices in the office.

The board moved to accept Sanson's report; the motion was seconded by Treasurer Dennis Mulligan and passed by voice vote. Sanson said she will continue to work with staff on the offices' new framework and bring updates as work progresses.

The meeting closed with a motion to adjourn.
