Board approves $38,453 for music storage and adopts superintendent’s 2024–25 goals

The Redford Union Schools District No. 1 board approved two action items at its Nov. 11 regular meeting: a purchase for secure storage for instrumental music programs and the superintendent’s 2024–25 goals.

Storage purchase: The board approved a recommendation from Superintendent Jason Witt and Director Myles Thomasites to buy secure storage units for Redford Union Junior High and Redford Union High School instrumental music programs "in a total amount of $38,453 which also includes the installation." The motion was moved by Mr. Bailey and seconded by Mrs. March; a roll-call vote recorded five yes votes and the motion carried.

Why it matters: District staff said the storage will serve the RUJHS and RUHS instrumental programs; the amount ($38,453) includes installation costs. The procurement follows discussion at an earlier workshop and was presented as a facilities/operational need.

Superintendent goals: The board also considered and approved Superintendent Jason Witt’s 2024–25 school‑year goals, which emphasize continued implementation of Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), family and community engagement, and a stakeholder-informed portrait of a graduate that could support future strategic planning. The motion to adopt the goals was moved by Mr. Bailey and seconded by Miss Miller. During the discussion some board members pressed for more measurable, SMART-style language; the superintendent said prior presentations and a workshop had outlined the implementation plan and timelines. A roll-call vote recorded 4 yes and 1 no (Mr. Bailey voted no); the motion carried.

What’s next: The CFO noted the district’s annual audit will be presented at the Dec. 9 meeting. The storage purchase and adoption of the goals were carried in the meeting and will be implemented by the appropriate district departments.
