Idaho Senate receives governor's appointment notices; sends nominees to committees

The Idaho Senate on Jan. 7 received a series of gubernatorial appointment notices from Gov. Brad Little and referred each nominee to committee for confirmation. The secretary read letters naming appointees and reappointments with their stated commencement and expiration dates.

The notices included, as read into the record, appointments and reappointments for: Corey Barrier (appointment to an offender management board, term commencing March 14, 2024, expiring Jan. 1, 2027); Alex Adams of Eagle (appointed director of the Department of Health and Welfare, term commencing June 5, 2024); Ashley Dahl of Nampa (appointed director of Juvenile Corrections, term commencing June 9, 2024); Mary Martin of Boise (appointed to the Commission of Pardons and Parole, term commencing June 27, 2024, expiring Jan. 1, 2026); Brent Baker and Mark Brickmayer (reappointments to the Lake Pend Oreille Basin Commission, terms commencing July 24, 2023, expiring July 24, 2026); Brig. Gen. Timothy J. Donnellan of Eagle (appointed adjutant general of the Idaho Military Division, term commencing June 23, 2024); Sean Kio and Kurt Lybick (reappointments to the State Board of Education, terms commencing July 1, 2024, expiring July 1, 2029); Rob Perez (reappointed to the Treasurer’s Investment Advisory Board, term commencing July 1, 2024, expiring July 1, 2028); James Keating (appointed to the Parks and Recreation Board, term commencing August 23, 2024, expiring June 30, 2025); and Mike Roach (appointed to the Idaho Fish and Game Commission, term commencing August 29, 2024, expiring June 30, 2028).

Presiding officers announced committee referrals: the appointment for Corey Barrier was referred to the Judiciary and Rules Committee; Alex Adams to the Health and Welfare Committee; Ashley Dahl and Mary Martin to the Judiciary and Rules Committee; Brig. Gen. Timothy J. Donnellan to the State Affairs Committee; Rob Perez to the State Affairs Committee; and both James Keating and Mike Roach to the Resources and Environment Committee. The presiding officer also directed that all associated correspondence be filed in the office of the secretary. The secretary prefaced the reading by noting the letters were transmitted by Gov. Brad Little.

The referrals begin the formal confirmation process in the Senate committees named in the record; no committee hearings or confirmation votes were recorded on the floor during this session.

What happens next: each referred committee will schedule consideration according to its rules and calendar; the senate record shows only the notice and referral actions on Jan. 7.
