House backs study and planning timeline for re-envisioning Agency of Human Services

The House considered S.183, an act to 're-envision' the Agency of Human Services by directing an internal, stakeholder-driven process to identify opportunities for improved service delivery. Member from Fairfield said the agency is the state's largest and the bill asks the agency and its stakeholders to assess whether and how divisions or reorganizations should occur.The bill requires the secretary to present status updates to several committees by Feb. 1, 2025 and a more concrete plan by Nov. 1, 2025. Committees reported testimony from agency leadership and a range of stakeholders including advocacy groups and state-employee representatives.House Committee on Government Operations and Military Affairs recommended a simple amendment to add state employees among the named impacted groups; Human Services concurred and the House adopted the amendment by voice vote. Third reading was ordered.
