The Vermont General Assembly convened in joint assembly on Feb. 15, 2024 and re-elected Major General Gregory C. Knight of Huntington as Adjutant and Inspector General of the Vermont National Guard.
Representative Sebelio of Dover formally nominated Knight and delivered an extended endorsement that cited Knight’s 41 years of uniformed service, prior work in the U.S. Coast Guard and Burlington police department, and leadership roles in the Vermont National Guard. Sebelio said Knight had prioritized communication with the legislature and the welfare of service members and their families and asked colleagues to support his re-election.
Senator Rahm Hinsdale (Chittenden Central, sitting in Southeast) seconded the nomination and outlined three reasons to support Knight, emphasizing his leadership during emergencies, work on policies protecting victims of domestic violence, and responsiveness to legislative inquiries.
Because there were no other nominations, the chair closed nominations and, finding no objection under Joint Rule 10(a), called for a voice vote on the uncontested slate. Members answered “aye,” and the chair declared Gregory C. Knight elected Adjutant and Inspector General for a two-year term beginning March 1, 2024 and continuing until a successor is elected and qualified.
The assembly immediately proceeded to the next item on its agenda.
