The Missouri Senate voted 33–0 on Jan. 14 to adopt Senate Resolution 19, a measure that reduces the total number of committee slots and reshuffles committee responsibilities. "We had a 149 total slots on committees and we cut that to a 140," the senator from Shelby said while moving the resolution for adoption. The senator said the change is meant to ease burdens on legislators and help members attend committee meetings.
Senate Resolution 19 moves workforce development out of the education committee into a renamed "Economic and Workforce Development" committee so that the education committee can focus solely on education. The resolution also transfers professional registration duties into the Emerging Issues Committee and renames the "Health and Welfare" committee to "Families, Seniors and Health," which the sponsor said reflects an emphasis on family practice and services.
The sponsor presented the changes as modest but deliberate: a net reduction of committee slots and reallocation of topics to align oversight and workload. The motion was called from the calendar, explained on the floor, and passed by recorded vote, 33 in favor and none opposed.
The resolution was printed in the journal for the record. No amendments were recorded on the floor during the adoption. The body then moved on to the next order of business.
