Beatrice Public Schools administrators used the April 8 board meeting to update the public on upcoming student events, community partnerships and staff recognition.
High school staff described a career and job fair scheduled for April 19 in partnership with Engage, saying 32 businesses and military branches had signed up to meet students during lunch periods. The district plans to use FBLA students to encourage student engagement and will provide lunch to participating businesses; organizers said a punch-card system and sample questions will prompt students to interact meaningfully with employers. Administrators reported that nine students from last year’s fair were contacted and later hired by participating businesses.
The board also recognized Teresa (employee of the month) for day-to-day contributions at the preschool and congratulated Premier Chevrolet for sponsorships and donations, including a $1,000 gift to the preschool playground and support for fundraising events. Administrators reported that Cognia and NE Frameworks accreditation visits in February recommended buildings for accreditation. The superintendent thanked Homestead National Park for donating 1,500 eclipse glasses distributed to students and for providing telescopes for middle school observations.
The meeting included other routine business and concluded with notification of the next regular meeting on May 13, 2024.
