The Beatrice Public Schools board reviewed and advanced Policy 4110.3 on March 11, updating how the district will support teachers seeking endorsements and how repayment will be handled if teachers depart early.
Administrator Mr. Alexander said the policy would allow the district to pay tuition for teachers obtaining endorsements beyond their current certification if the teacher signs a two‑year commitment. Under the proposed repayment schedule, a teacher who leaves with five months of consecutive service or less would reimburse 100% of costs the district paid; departures between five and 12 months would require 50% reimbursement; departures between month 13 and the 24th month could require up to 25% reimbursement. At the 25th consecutive month the reimbursement requirement would lapse.
Alexander said the policy was developed with counsel (Perry Law Firm) and that a notarized promissory note would document the agreement.
The board also completed a second reading of Policy 4110.1 to accept all prior years of teaching experience for salary placement, a change Alexander described as necessary to remain competitive during teacher shortages.
What’s next: The board discussed the policies and no roll‑call amendments were recorded in the meeting transcript; Alexander indicated the promissory note and formal contract language will be finalized with legal counsel.
