Benefits staff and consultant Bob presented a comparison of available plans and explained the principal difference was the "upper limit" (annual maximum benefit). The MassMutual option raises the upper limit to $5,000. Staff said roughly 130 county employees currently participate in payroll‑deducted dental coverage and that moving to the higher limit plan would increase the higher‑plan premium to $40.32 per month for employees who select it; one staffer noted the MassMutual proposal was roughly $11 more per month than the current lower plan for employees who might move up.
Commissioners discussed plan choice and employee premium impact before the court approved moving forward with MassMutual's high‑limit plan by voice vote. Staff will implement the coverage change and notify affected employees of premium and plan options.
