Votes at a glance: Planning commission approves site plan and design amendments, recommends denial on large rezoning

The White House Planning Commission handled multiple routine and contested agenda items at its March meeting, approving site and design items while forwarding an advisory denial and deferring additional ordinance language for further refinement.

Among votes taken: the commission approved a one‑year bond extension for a project noted in the packet, approved the site plan for a proposed 7,240‑square‑foot White House Sports Bar on Sage Road with staff conditions on driveway/access, and approved an amendment to residential planning and design standards to reinstate percentages for rear‑ and side‑loaded garages and clarify foundation materials. The panel also nominated and approved a vice chair appointment and approved prior meeting minutes.

The commission held a lengthy public hearing on Elmington’s Raymond Hirsch Townhomes rezoning and voted to recommend denial to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen; that advisory recommendation moves to the Board for its final decision. Separately, discussion of proposed campground ordinance language (including a shift from a 30‑day minimum stay to a proposed 180‑day minimum, campsite sizing and tent restrictions) was deferred for further drafting and public review.

The planning department will transmit the commission’s advisory recommendation on the Raymond Hirsch request to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen and will advertise the proposed bond percentage change for public hearing next month.
