A board member reported two awarded grants covering major facility work: a Public School Facility Improvement Grant of $900,000 for roof replacement and a Public School Environmental Repairs grant of $271,052 for HVAC upgrades, for a combined grant total of $1,171,052.
According to the presentation, Chambersburg's local share for both projects is estimated at $237,356.55. The roof grant calls for a 25% local match; the HVAC grant carries a 50% local match. The presenter said the district’s participation-rate calculation makes the district responsible for 41.5% of certain costs.
The maintenance director learned of an alternative roofing method—the Conklin spray‑polyurethane foam system—promoted at a workshop as significantly less expensive than traditional methods while offering a five‑year labor warranty and a 20‑year non‑prorated materials warranty. Bids are being solicited for this roofing approach.
Board members did not vote on contracts during the meeting; the district indicated bids are being solicited and further procurement steps will follow.
