Calvin Taylor was elected chair of the Caroline County School Board on Jan. 13 during the board's required annual reorganization; Lonnie L. Fortune was elected vice chair. The reorganization followed Virginia statutory requirements for the board to elect officers and adopt an annual meeting schedule.
Superintendent Dr. Sarah Calvarick opened nominations and recommended Lisa Stevens be clerk of the board and Christy Shaw be deputy clerk; both appointments were approved by unanimous vote. Marsha Stevens was approved as the superintendent's designee to attend meetings in the superintendent’s absence. The board also voted to continue the student school board representative position for 2025.
The board approved its 2025 meeting calendar, noting three dates (March 17, Aug. 18 and Oct. 20) depart from the division’s standard second-Monday meeting pattern because of scheduled school closures or breaks. Members also approved signing the board and clerk code of conduct and adopted committee responsibilities discussed in the work session.
All routine reorganization motions and the consent agenda were carried by unanimous voice vote. The board completed the business without public comment and moved on to presentations and hearings later in the agenda.
