Councilor Wayne Matuski called National Grid representatives forward to discuss electrical upgrades at Glendale Towers after residents reported overheating and lack of air-conditioning capacity.
Matuski said the engineer working on the project has spent roughly $80,000 to diagnose the issue, which centers on conductors and service capacity. He said National Grid will facilitate service from the street to the property on Ferry Street, and according to the Everett Housing Authority director (as summarized by council), by summer residents should be able to install window air conditioners up to 12,000 BTU.
Councilors thanked the utility representatives and amended a referral so the item would be returned to the sponsor with an instruction that the clerk send a letter of thanks to National Grid for its engagement. Councilor Holly Garcia said she had no substantive questions but welcomed National Grid’s involvement after years of requests for presence from the utility.
The council noted related city street-lighting and lighting-bulb issues remain separate topics to address with the utility.
