Council confirms and swears in new Everett police officer

The Everett City Council confirmed the appointment of Kevin Ferreira Pereira to the Everett Police Department during its Jan. 22 meeting and administered the oath of office.

Clerk read item 8 requesting confirmation of the appointment. The council voted by roll call to confirm the appointment (10–0). Following the vote the appointee stood at the podium and repeated the oath, pledging to “faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me as a police officer in the City of Everett,” and to support the laws and constitution of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Why it matters: The confirmation completed the formal hiring step the council controls. The council encouraged a short recess to allow photos and invited the new officer to stand with family and council members.
