Perkiomen Valley School District officials presented details on the full‑day kindergarten rollout and related enrollment and materials planning.
Education committee presenters described the daily schedule (90 minutes ELA, a 20‑minute WEN period, 60 minutes math, 30 minutes science and integrated social studies) and said the district is coordinating visits to North Penn School District to refine materials and classroom organization. "We are doing, you'll see later in the slide presentation, a visitation to the North Penn School District ... this looks like it'll likely be the schedule that we use for our full day kindergarten program," a presenter said.
Enrollment projections showed 238 registrants with about 15 in progress; if all in‑progress registrations complete, the district would reach roughly 253 total kindergarten registrations, producing a projection of 14 classes now with a reasonable expectation of 15 or 16 classes later. Presenters said projected class counts remain within the 10% staffing increase parameters the board previously approved.
Board members asked whether additional classroom materials or teacher stipends would be required so teachers are not expected to supply items out of pocket. The administration said principals and teachers are collaborating to define necessary furniture and manipulatives and to minimize out‑of‑pocket expenses; the team will finalize orders after the North Penn visit.
No formal vote was taken; several education items related to summer programming and full‑day kindergarten were moved to the consent agenda for next week.
