The North Scott Community School District board on Wednesday approved the district’s 2025–26 school calendar following a public hearing and staff presentation.
District staff member (Speaker 2) said the draft is “a very traditional calendar” but noted several changes required by state law and local scheduling priorities, including two built‑in snow makeup dates and a reconfigured conference comp day that will give many families a four‑day weekend. The calendar retains the Wednesday before Thanksgiving as a day off and aims to finish the school year soon after Memorial Day, Speaker 2 said.
The proposal drew input from staff and the public: Speaker 2 said 217 people completed district surveys and school‑level staff meetings provided additional feedback. Speakers at the hearing asked for clarity about how snow makeup days will be invoked and about the timing of fall conference days; staff described a process for notifying families about makeup days.
Board members moved and seconded approval of the calendar and carried the measure by voice vote. The board’s action authorizes staff to publish dates for registrations and related family communications for the next school year.
The calendar change will affect scheduling for fall conferences, planned snow‑makeup days and summer planning; the district said it will notify families directly and post details on district communication channels.
