Maggie McBrayer of Cunningham Recreation asked the Public Works committee to choose a color palette for the Trade Park playground and presented three otherwise-identical design options. "Tonight, we wanted to vote only colors for Trade Park," McBrayer said, showing the Jovial, Spring Bloom and Forrester palettes and describing surfacing and shade options.
The committee’s discussion focused on durability and heat. McBrayer said red and yellow plastics typically fade fastest and that darker greens may run hotter in direct sun, but noted integrated shade on the structure and shaded benches to mitigate temperature concerns. She also explained that surfacing patterns can be applied to any of the three designs.
After discussion, a motion was made and seconded to adopt Option 2, which participants referred to in the meeting as “Spring Blue.” The motion carried by voice vote. Committee members asked McBrayer to provide an updated rendering showing a concrete sidewalk (rather than curb) and the planned black split fence around that sidewalk.
McBrayer said the equipment is manufactured regionally and that a local install team will perform the work; she estimated about eight to 10 weeks from order to on-site installation. She also described options for replacing or repairing shade sails and suggested smaller, replaceable sails are easier and less costly to maintain than one large sail. The committee discussed how to handle removal or salvage of existing equipment and whether a donor wall or a fence with names would be used for commemorative recognition.
Next steps: McBrayer will send updated renderings to Cliff and Amy for distribution and the committee will include the final materials on a future agenda for any additional approvals or information-sharing.
