Public Works updates parks camera and lighting work; approves forwarding pool staffing plan

The committee received multiple parks updates. Speaker 5 said most ballfield lights are installed but some poles need aiming; one pole intrudes into the field and members discussed temporary fencing and permanent repositioning. Speaker 5 also reported that camera installers were on site and that server and connectivity work is underway; Speaker 6 warned high‑resolution cameras (including a 24‑megapixel unit) could strain bandwidth and recommended eventual fiber to support streaming.

On playground replacement, Speaker 5 said three proposals were received and described inclusive equipment priorities (ramps, accessible merry‑go‑round and inclusive swings). Fabrication and installation were estimated to be about a year away; committee members discussed UV protection for equipment and possible funding from grants or retaining/contracting a grant writer.

The committee discussed pool season staffing and lifeguard recruitment. Speaker 5 noted certification classes are filling quickly and that past staff outreach would be useful. After discussion of pay, hours and recruitment strategy, Speaker 3 moved that the committee forward the pool staffing proposal with a favorable recommendation; the motion was seconded and carried. Members asked staff to continue recruitment outreach to returning lifeguards and local schools and to report back on certified candidate numbers.

No funding appropriation was made for playground replacement or camera deployment; members asked staff to return with cost estimates and contracting options.
