Public Works hears pool update: attendance steady despite lifeguard loss

Staff updated the commission on pool operations and staffing. Speaker 6 said the department "did lose a lifeguard this week" but reported steady daily attendance, estimating "maybe 40 to 50 every day." He told commissioners there have been few incidents and that concession sales and pool-party bookings remain active.

Staff noted limits on teen lifeguards (15-year-olds and 16-year-olds cannot work late-night events) and said they will coordinate managers and assistant managers to cover holiday and evening events such as July 4 and park music nights. Speaker 3 said the season has gone "really good this year" and staff will look to shift parties or hold Saturdays/Thursdays as rain-day makeups to maximize bookings.
