Public Works reviews pool repairs and playground auction; committee plans spring work and reuse of memorial boards

Public Works staff updated the committee on park maintenance: the pool will be winterized next week and staff reported a corrected loss estimate that fell from roughly $1,528,889 to about $1,278,889. Cliff said the pool liner and cement are showing wear—he described multiple damaged areas consistent with a facility beyond its expected service life—and recommended soliciting quotes for a bedliner-style repair during spring cleanup.

The committee also reviewed the results of a playground-equipment auction. Cliff said the sale raised approximately $45,100 and reduced demolition costs by allowing buyers to remove equipment within a 30-day window. He said two swing sets and some spring-rocker toys were retained; the remainder was sold to buyers who have three to 30 days (depending on buyer arrangements) to remove items. Family-engraved name boards remain largely legible (Cliff estimated about 99% reusable) and the committee discussed fundraising and reuse options, including a proposed spring installation and a dedication tied to a family request.

Committee members asked staff to follow up on removal timelines, secure storage of retained items and to obtain repair quotes for both the pool liner and community center carpeting. No formal funding approvals for repairs were made at the meeting; staff will report back with cost estimates and timeline recommendations.
