Members of the Oklahoma Technology Student Association (TSA) addressed the CareerTech Board on Jan. 18, outlining how the student organization supports STEM skills, leadership and career awareness.
Andrea Shaw, introduced as the Oklahoma TSA state president and a senior at Edmond Santa Fe High School, told the board she became involved in TSA in middle school and said the organization “gave me a voice,” crediting TSA with helping her find an interest in medicine and leadership opportunities. State vice president Eric Wong and state secretary Derek Pham described TSA’s range of competitive events — from dragster design and structural engineering to career prep and business management — and explained that state winners qualify for national competition.
Officers described outreach efforts planned for the year: a greater focus on social media member spotlights and newsletters to increase engagement; a new “tech‑tape” video essay series to teach chapters about portfolios, conference etiquette and program structure; and tailored chapter visits that include mock competitive events. The students provided contact information for state advisers (Tammy Reedus) and a QR link to resources.
Board members and the superintendent praised the students’ presentation and the role of CareerTech in supporting student organizations. The presenters emphasized that TSA fosters both technical skills and soft skills, and that participation can help students make informed choices about careers and college studies.
