Dr. Simcovyak, speaking for technology services, told the board the district will consider three technology purchases at the April 24 meeting: a bid award for a camera-system upgrade, network-switch purchases and UPS (uninterruptible power supply) units. He framed the camera work as part of a comprehensive, consistent approach to student and staff safety and said the technology advisory committee had already received the materials and will meet in advance of the board vote.
"As part of a comprehensive, holistic, consistent approach to student safety, staff safety and security, I think it is important to have a rational and well thought out approach to our use of security cameras," Dr. Simcovyak said. He noted that Mr. Cox is working with colleagues on camera design to provide appropriate views of necessary areas.
A member of the public later asked whether the district planned to lease or buy network switches; the transcript records the question but not a district response specifying procurement method. The technology advisory committee will meet 24 hours before the vote and any additional feedback it provides will be passed to the board.
The board will vote on these equipment purchases April 24; the transcript does not record purchase prices or vendor names.
