Emmaus High students, community events and supports highlighted at East Penn board meeting

The East Penn School District Board meeting on Jan. 22 opened with a student-government report and a series of community and district announcements.

Elizabeth Samer delivered the Emmaus High School Student Government Association report, outlining winter athletics schedules, upcoming senior night for boys' basketball, club activities and fundraisers. She said the Future Business Leaders of America team qualified 35 students for the state competition in Hershey and that a record 120 Emmaus students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society.

In public comment, Mary Ellen Jackson described East Penn Neighbors Helping Neighbors, a community nonprofit that provides transitional housing and case management to families facing housing insecurity. Jackson promoted the organization's spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Feb. 10 at MAS Moravian Church, with two seatings at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. and suggested donations of $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

Dr. Campbell congratulated student honorees (naming multiple students recognized by Lehigh Carbon Technical programs and the Pennsylvania Art Education Association), announced a rescheduled 8th-grade family welcome night for Jan. 24, and a FAFSA completion assistance night on Feb. 7 at Emmaus High School. He also reminded families about a Rotary supplemental feeding schedule, encouraged community members to consider crossing-guard openings in the borough of Emmaus, and recognized Ms. Benner from Iyer Middle School, who will retire later this spring after five years of service.
