The East Penn School District Board of School Directors approved a slate of routine motions on March 11, 2024, with unanimous roll-call votes.
Items approved included: the Feb. 26, 2024 meeting minutes; personnel recommendations presented at the meeting; business operations items A through E (which included creating a student-activities fund for "Shave for the Brave" and a contract to bring Kutztown University graduate assistants as reading specialists); award of the pupil-transportation bid; educational conference attendance and cost adjustments; adoption of the 2024-25 student-teacher calendar; and the Emmaus High School Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) Plan resolution.
Ms. Allen conducted roll calls; for each formal vote the board recorded nine ayes. The personnel vote was followed by Superintendent Campbell recognitions of two retiring teachers: Mrs. O'Hara (25-year career, 19 years at Emmaus High) and Mr. Schreiner (32 years, Lower Macungie Middle School).
The business operations approvals also included authorization to open a dedicated student-activity fund for the Shave for the Brave event so proceeds can be administered appropriately. Board members discussed placement of Kutztown University graduate assistants and learned the district will work with Kutztown to interview candidates and assign them to elementary schools based on intervention needs.
No motions failed and no abstentions were recorded; final adoption of the district budget remains scheduled for later meetings.
