At its May 28 meeting, the Tredyffrin‑Easttown School Board approved the consent agenda by voice vote (recorded as 9–0) and reviewed finance and facilities items the administration asked committees to advance.
Finance committee members reported local revenues at about 98% of budget and noted student‑services costs running over budget due to increased tuition and outside placements; projected overages for student services were described in the meeting as roughly $750,000 to $1.2 million for the 2023–24 fiscal year. The committee discussed a multi‑issue borrowing plan; the first bond issue — a $40,000,000 sale — occurred May 22 and will close after June 4, with proceeds placed into the capital projects fund.
David Preston, supervisor of food and nutrition, told the board rising food costs and the end of federal supply chain assistance are creating a shortfall of about $163,000 for 2024–25. He said a 50¢–90¢ increase in breakfast and lunch prices would be needed to balance the food services budget; the finance committee asked that pricing be discussed at its June meeting.
Facilities committee staff reported the district accepted a bid from Atlantic Coast Communications to install a distributed antenna system and emergency radio enhancements for several schools for $527,193; they also agreed to lease temporary modular classrooms at Valley Forge Elementary for fall to accommodate rising enrollment and discussed design choices for the new elementary (larger gym and VRF/DOAS HVAC selected). Athletic‑field clearing has begun and construction bids are expected in the coming weeks.
The board also received committee updates on policy, curriculum implementation of STEALS/STEM standards and legislative engagement with state officials about special education funding and other bills. No substantive public comment was received on these items during the meeting.
