The Woburn City Traffic Commission elected Bill Popolato chair at a Jan. 18, 2024 meeting after a nomination and roll‑call vote.
Commissioners on the dais praised outgoing leadership before the vote. A ranking member thanked Jeff Dillon "for the service that he's provided and his leadership for the last 4 years." The outgoing chair offered a parting statement thanking commission members, city staff and public‑safety personnel and said, "I can't think of anything more important than the safety of our citizens."
During the meeting the commission accepted a nomination for Bill Popolato, the motion was seconded and the secretary polled members. The recorded affirmative responses included Commissioner Cassidy, Commissioner D'Ambro, Commissioner Duran, Commissioner Jolly, Commissioner Smith, Commissioner Stokes and Commissioner Popolato; the chair's gavel was then transferred to Popolato, who introduced himself and asked members for patience and guidance as he settles into the role.
Popolato said he has served on the license commission for five years and described his approach as "more direct" and not long‑winded, adding he would rely on other members for guidance as needed.
The commission did not take further formal action on leadership at the meeting. The new chair outlined items for the coming meetings, including old business and a new petition about handicap parking.
The commission adjourned after agreeing other agenda items and asking staff to draft any necessary follow‑up communications.
