Kennett administrators revise high‑school course planning guide; send digital copy to counselors

Kennett Consolidated School District administrators presented updates to the high‑school course planning guide at the Jan. 29 Curriculum Committee meeting, describing the revision as largely a carryover of content with a small set of additions for internships and dual‑enrollment opportunities.

Dr. D’Angelis said about 95% of the guide is rollover content and highlighted a new section for internships, dual enrollment and local university partnerships. He noted a footnote clarifying how block scheduling affects credit counts and said course selection had begun the day of the meeting.

“Course selection began today,” Dr. D’Angelis said, explaining the district will distribute the guide electronically, send a copy to middle‑school counselors and make it available on the district website.

Board members asked whether degree program titles could appear on diplomas; administrators said dual‑enrollment credits appear on transcripts but not on diplomas today, and that additional policy work would be necessary to change diploma designations. The administration also said the district will review staffing and sectioning to ensure teachers align with program needs and will return with a more detailed staffing and implementation plan later in the spring.

Administrators said they will finalize edits to pages highlighted in the draft and circulate the updated document to Dr. Blakey for release. The committee indicated support for prompt distribution to students and families now that course selection is underway.
