District committee previews Reveal algebra 1 textbook for board review

Speaker 2 shifted to math and presented the committee's textbook recommendation for algebra 1: the Reveal curriculum, selected by a committee of middle- and high-school math teachers and aligned with the district's recently adopted I-Ready program.

Speaker 2 said the Reveal materials include language-development supports for second-language learners, online resources and teacher supports, and that materials are available in Spanish and multiple other languages. She left a sample student textbook and teacher's manual in the district office for board members to review ahead of a recommendation to the full board.

Board members asked for the rubric and committee documentation that drove the selection; Speaker 2 agreed to email the selection spreadsheet and review materials and to make those materials front-facing when the recommendation goes to the board. The committee recommended moving first on algebra 1 because existing middle-school algebra materials are more than a decade old and in poor condition.

Speaker 2 said the district would aim to present the textbook for approval at either the April or May board meeting to allow time for training ahead of summer sessions.
