Mister Audubard presented a recommendation for a new AP Statistics textbook at the Feb. 12 committee meeting: Practice of Statistics for the AP, 7th edition (BFW Publishers). The package proposed includes 120 texts and a 10‑year digital license at a total cost of $29,985.48. Administrators said the cost was included in the curriculum and instruction budget and noted the district historically keeps statistics texts in place for long cycles (an example cited was a previous book lasting about 15 years). The difference between a standard 5‑year license and the 10‑year option was described as roughly $3,000, making the longer license a more efficient long‑term choice.
Kevin Long, department chair and AP Statistics teacher, said the 7th edition is newly organized around the College Board’s nine‑unit structure (the College Board reorganized AP Statistics content in 2019), includes an Achieve online resource with sample datasets and question banks, and covers some topics added to the curriculum since 2019. Long said the district would begin using the new book in the 2024–25 school year if approved and that the publisher’s online component should reduce the need for separate data‑management software in class because students have Chromebooks.
The committee noted the resource will be available for community review before the March board vote. No formal approval occurred at the committee meeting; staff will present the proposal as a voting item at the March regular board meeting.
