At the April 8 Curriculum, Instruction & Technology meeting, district staff summarized progress on Goal 1 (improving academic achievement and growth) and related MTSS work, described efforts to streamline data analysis, and gave quick updates on new course enrollments and two upcoming voting items.
MTSS and data work
Staff said central office has been holding regular data meetings with principals and that schools have been using PLCs and team planning time to analyze assessment and climate data. The district described a committee effort to review alternate standards and PASA data for low-incidence special-education students so teams can align IEP goals and specially designed instruction.
Staff also said they are evaluating data-warehousing tools to present and analyze data more efficiently so teacher teams can focus on instructional decisions rather than assembling raw data.
Course selection and enrollments
Staff reported course-selection numbers: at the middle school, 30 students selected a new creative-writing core class; creative-writing honors retained higher numbers. At the high school, nine students were enrolled in a revised English 12 first-level course and six students in a new science research honors blended course. Staff said departments typically look for about 12–13 students to run a course but may run new blended offerings with lower enrollment to build momentum.
Upcoming votes and professional learning
Staff said the full special-education plan (presented previously) will be a voting item at next week's board meeting and that an agreement with Professional Learning Partners for 2024–25 professional development—covering an administrator science-of-learning series, a teacher-leader fellowship for four educators, and summer innovation sessions—would be presented for approval at the same meeting at an estimated cost of $21,975.
What to expect
If approved, staff said the PD contract would include selected teacher leaders returning to their buildings to share practices and that the district will set selection processes for fellowship participants. The special-education plan and PD contract will appear on the board's agenda next week for formal action.
