Commissioners flag longstanding blight at Grant Street property; staff to follow up

During the Jan. 15 meeting the commission reviewed a zoning and blight enforcement update and a commissioner raised a specific concern about a property on Grant Street where vehicles and dismantled car parts appear to be stored in a yard, possibly as an active business.

Commissioner Greg Perisino described the property (noting the corner raised ranch at 11 Grant Street as a nearby reference) and said there appears to be vehicle dismantling happening outdoors: “He has bodies of cars and trucks. He’s got a Corvette hanging out front.” Commissioners noted local regulations prohibit dismantling vehicles in yards (that activity is supposed to occur inside a building) and asked staff about enforcement status.

Staff said the matter is on the enforcement list and the assistant planner (Nate) has been working the case, though Nate was not present this week; staff promised to follow up and discuss next steps in a planned zoning enforcement meeting next week to clarify which items can be closed and which require active enforcement.
