Littlestown Area SD staff describe student writing work, iReady monitoring

Unidentified staff member (Speaker 3) told the meeting the district has been visiting classrooms and saw multiple English language arts projects in progress, including a middle-school writing center where students "are making a literary magazine," an initiative the presenter credited to Michelle Little, a middle school teacher, and a second-grade unit led by Erin Collins in which students wrote autobiographies and practiced small-group speaking.

Speaker 3 said sixth-grade students worked from nonfiction articles to write letters tailored to an audience and were taught to cite evidence from texts. The presenter described cross-department collaboration with a physics teacher, Brett, and said additional math classroom updates will be provided next month by Lauren.

On assessment, Speaker 3 said the district pulls weekly iReady reports and that teachers and staff can drill down into usage and resources: "We get a report every Monday that I can take a look at," the presenter said, adding the next major iReady data point will arrive in January. The speaker characterized the iReady data as a "wealth of information" used for small-group and individualized instruction but emphasized that "boots on the ground" support from teachers remains crucial to meeting students' needs.

The meeting included an anecdotal concern raised by another member about a student on an IEP who may not have been receiving expected instruction; Speaker 3 responded that the district has programs in place to provide targeted support.
