Eddie Morrison presented the Cherokee National Treasures Advisory Committee report, describing rotating exhibits and mentorship opportunities for tribal artists and cultural practitioners.
“Cherokee national treasures are featured at the Saline Courthouse Museum on a 4 month rotating basis,” Morrison said, and he noted that Thomas Muscrat’s exhibit, “Carving Out a Community,” began Jan. 14 and will run through May. Morrison also described displays at the Anna Mitchell Cultural and Welcome Center and referenced work included at Crystal Bridges Museum in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Morrison said the advisory committee is opening FY25 mentorship signups and noted the program budgets for 10 national treasures to host class sessions each year; several treasures were already teaching. He also reported the recent passing of two national treasures and extended condolences to families.
The report focused on exhibitions and programming rather than formal committee action; Morrison invited questions and participation from committee members and the public.
