The Huron Board of Education voted unanimously on a series of routine and governance items at its Jan. 27 special meeting.
Consent agenda: The board approved the consent agenda by roll call. The package included 10 new hires to be covered by workers’ compensation, two resignations (Zachary Katarabic, Lisa Schneider), authorization to seek bids for a prime food vendor for the 2025‑26 school year, an e‑rate network contract with Riverside Technologies (switches, access points and licensing for five years), and three small grant applications: a $500 United Way request for the Huron Middle School Art Club (Lindsey Hudson), a $750 Huron Youth Leadership Council request to support a post‑prom event (Renee Pewterbaugh), and a $750 HOSA grant request to help students attend the state conference (Rita Basler Lanters). Policies and calendar: The board held second readings and approved, by unanimous roll call, policy JFABE and its associated form JFABE‑E (McKinney‑Vento dispute resolution process and form), the 2025‑26 school calendar, and policy GCDB (criminal background checks). The chair called for motions and Kelly called the roll for each vote.
New business: The board approved the Greater Huron Development Corporation CTE house bid proposal that had been presented previously by Ted Hader. Board members briefly discussed whether a formal bid process was required and were told competitive bidding requirements generally apply at about $50,000; the board approved the proposal by unanimous roll call.
