Superintendent Doctor Scriven gave a comprehensive report focused on implementation of the district strategic plan, curriculum coherence, and data-driven approaches to improve student outcomes. He emphasized strengthening instructional leadership, aligning curriculum to common core standards, and expanding frequent formative assessments and interventions to address learning gaps.
As part of the district’s assessment strategy, Scriven highlighted tools in use or newly incorporated into the district’s data infrastructure: IXL for personalized practice, FastBridge for integrated academic and behavioral screening, and LinkIt for consolidating assessment data and reporting. He described these systems as central to the district’s MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) and PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) efforts to identify needs, monitor progress, and target interventions.
Scriven also framed equity and inclusion as core priorities, saying the district is working to close opportunity and achievement gaps through culturally responsive teaching, differentiated instruction, small-group interventions in early grades, and professional development and coaching for teachers. He noted teacher retention remains a challenge and stressed induction and mentoring for early-career teachers.
Doctor Scriven closed by calling attention to upcoming events and initiatives, including a Black History Month culminating activity on Feb. 25. The presentation laid out the district’s upcoming priorities and timelines for the 2025–28 comprehensive plan and set expectations for further data review as assessment results become available.
