Superintendent Brown reported to the Neshaminy SD Board that district professional development programming took place across schools and introduced several curricular initiatives while thanking staff who organized the sessions.
"Yesterday, I enjoyed visiting our election day professional development seminars from across the district," Brown said, describing elementary staff meetings at Towanka and Fertibar and secondary sessions at the high school. He named curricular initiatives under development, including LinkIt, Student Hub, structured literacy and a program he referred to as "magnetic reading," and thanked Ms. Burkholder and her team for coordinating the day.
Brown told the board that Maple Point will host a Veterans Day ceremony Thursday morning; staff painted an American flag on the field outside (moved slightly because of a construction project). He also noted that Carl Sandburg Middle School was decorated with hundreds of flags and that students and staff at Sandburg raised funds for the Disabled American Veterans to place flags for each donation.
Brown described a recent civic learning opportunity: Chatham High School hosted over 50 students from six high schools for a "Senator for a Day" program organized by State Senator Frank Farry, where students drafted and debated sample bills and took part in a mock Senate session.
He closed by pointing the board to student artwork on display from Miller, Hoover and Buck elementary schools and invited members to take a minute to view the exhibit.
The board received the report; no votes were required. The superintendent identified curricular initiatives and scheduled events for the coming week.
