The Mason County Fiscal Court on Feb. 13 approved a series of routine motions and several procurement and project items during its regular meeting.
Key outcomes at a glance
- 2023 settlement: Clerk Schumacher presented receipts of $5,714,222.85 and disbursements of $5,578,093.88 (excess fees $136,128.97). The court approved acceptance of the settlement by roll call.
- Monthly reports: The court approved January reports from the sheriff’s office (tax disbursements and vehicle report), landfill, recycling center, emergency management, detention center and animal shelter after staff presentations.
- Sheriff vehicle purchase: Commissioners discussed state contract bids for a 2023 Dodge Durango and related outfitting. Don Franklin Group’s vehicle and outfitting were presented as the lowest overall option; the court authorized proceeding with purchase and outfitting under state contract.
- Senior housing project: The court approved a Fair Housing policy/grievance procedure for an East End senior housing CDBG project and approved contract change orders, including a no‑cost acknowledgment and a small change order for $1,055.21.
- Grants and sponsorships: Treasurer and staff reported additional claims and a quarter revenue update; the court approved authorization to pay claims (including additional claims totaling $70,921.40) and noted an approved $5,000 chamber sponsorship effective next fiscal year.
Many agenda items were approved by motion and roll call; commissioners and staff praised volunteer groups and department work throughout the packet items.
Next steps: Staff will continue to implement approved change orders, coordinate vehicle procurement work with vendors and update the court on grant and funding outcomes as they occur.
