Travis Crawford of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (District 9) updated the court on the rural secondary allocation for FY 2024–25. Crawford said the district has a combined funds-available figure of $995,169 (including an undistributed balance) for the coming year and presented recommended expenditures for routine maintenance and improvements.
Crawford recommended an asphalt resurface of KY-597 (Mount Gillette Road) from the Mason County line to the junction with KY-11 (3.118 miles, estimated cost $290,000) and additional resurfacing on Taylor Mill Road (approx. 2.3 miles, estimated cost $205,000), noting that base failures have increased per-mile costs and that available funds may limit project extent.
The court moved and approved Resolution 24-07 to enter the County Road Aid Cooperative Program and subsequently approved Resolution 24-09 adopting the prioritization consistent with the KYTC recommendations. Commissioners asked staff to further refine base-failure estimates and to present a detailed project timeline as costs are finalized.
What happens next: county staff and KYTC will refine project estimates and scheduling; funding will be allocated to the prioritized projects when detailed cost estimates are completed.
