Shelley Clemens was elected chair of the Roanoke County School Board during the board’s Jan. 8 reorganization work session. The board also selected Mister Hudson as vice chair and approved administrative appointments: Edie York as board clerk and Dr. Jamie Soltis as deputy clerk.
Board members voted to adopt the schedule of regular meetings and work sessions as published in BoardDocs and approved nominations to advisory committees. Nominations placed Mister Greenway and Mister Linden on the Audit Committee; Mister Hudson on the Special Education Advisory Committee; Miss Vashani, Mister Greenway and Miss Clemens (alternating membership) on the CTE General Advisory Committee; Miss Vashani on the School Health Advisory Board; and Miss Clemens on the Roanoke Valley Governor’s School Board.
The board briefly convened a closed session under Code of Virginia § 2.2‑3711(A)(7) for consultation with legal counsel about probable litigation and, upon returning, certified that only matters exempted by law were discussed. No formal action resulted from the closed session at this meeting.
The board chair took over duties after the election and directed staff to place the committee appointments and clerical assignments in the consent agenda for formal ratification at the next regular meeting.
