The Meade County Board of Commissioners handled multiple administrative and finance items, including liquor-license renewals and budget transfers.
Auditor staff presented the list of malt-beverage renewals and noted which applicants had not returned paperwork by the meeting deadline. The board voted to continue the hearing for those late renewals to a future date and then, by motion, approved the remaining pending renewals. The board also approved a new malt-beverage license for Harmon Family Enterprises with a motion and voice vote.
On finance, auditor staff reported the need for 2023 negative cash-balance transfers to correct fund balances and proposed specific transfers totaling $508,000: $451,500 to Road and Bridge, $13,500 to 9-1-1, and $43,000 to Emergency Management. Commissioners moved to transfer the money from the General Fund, the motion was seconded and carried.
The board also approved a set of mid-year budgeted transfers for 2024 totaling $2,062,250, including $1,750,000 to Road and Bridge; $276,000 to 9-1-1; $15,000 to Emergency Management; and $21,000 to the library fund. Staff said these are budgeted transfers and that further end-of-year reconciliation will follow.
Why it matters: License continuances preserve due-process for applicants who missed paperwork deadlines; approved transfers address bookkeeping and maintain statutory fund balances for critical services.
Next steps: Auditor staff will follow up with license applicants who were continued and will complete the fund transfers and year-end reconciliations.
