Parents and school officials told the meeting the Topanga Boulevard closure has created lengthy student commutes and heightened attendance and equity concerns. LAUSD and county transportation staff said an emergency, focused route is under consideration to relieve those burdens.
Adrian (LAUSD transportation) said the primary concern is safety at the proposed PCH pickup location; he said the district's safety manager has proposed an alternate state‑owned turnaround and the district has reached out to the state agency for permission. "Once we get approval and everything's in place, we could get it done in a matter of days — 2, 3 days," Adrian said.
Allison (district office) summarized a survey done with school principals that indicated roughly 28 Paul Revere students and about 35 Pali High students would use a PCH/Topanga pickup. She noted that Palisades High is an independent charter and said that providing transportation to that campus would require a separate decision by the district.
County and district staff said they will continue to follow up with the state agency and the LAUSD director (Daniel Kang) for final authorization and asked parents to expect near‑term email updates. Local leaders urged quick action to have a temporary route in place before the end of the school year if approvals permit.
What happens next: LAUSD staff will pursue the state‑owned turnaround option with follow‑up this week; if the site and safety approvals come through, staff said a temporary shuttle route could be added in days.
