Calistoga recognizes Wildcat boys soccer and longtime public‑works superintendent

The Calistoga City Council used its Dec. 5 meeting to present two recognitions. The council read a proclamation congratulating the Calistoga High School Wildcat boys soccer team on a record 2023 season (19 wins, 3 losses, 1 tie) and the North Coast Section Division 2 title.

Later the council presented a retirement proclamation to John Montelli, recognizing roughly three decades of service in the Public Works Department (hired part‑time in 1990; full time from July 1991; promoted to superintendent of maintenance in 2013). Public Works Director Derek Rayner said Montelli’s deep institutional knowledge of the city’s underground utilities and decades of emergency service have been “unprecedented,” and presented a plaque and framed proclamation on behalf of the city.

Both recognitions were presented from the dais; the council and members of the public offered brief congratulations.
