The Loomis Town Council approved the consent calendar, which included a design contract to begin engineering work for federally funded street repairs.
Council members Cortez, Youngblood, Knisley, Ring and Mayor Cartwright voted to approve the consent calendar, after items 7 and 11 were pulled briefly for discussion.
Public works staff explained the paving package: Loomis received $318,000 in federal transportation funding for the next round of local paving. The council approved a roughly $134,000 contract to hire a design firm to prepare plans and specifications, perform pavement coring and geotechnical investigations, and ready two segments—Brace Road (in front of Costco) and King Road—for construction bidding. Staff estimated construction costs at about $600,000 for both segments and said the federal grant will cover roughly half of that amount; local funds must pay the design work.
Staff said the design contract starts the formal process required by federal funding rules and will allow the town to solicit competitive bids for construction.
Next step: Design work to proceed under the contract; staff to return with procurement updates and construction bidding schedule as the design is completed.
