The Loomis Town Council approved the formation of a Public Safety Committee and appointed Council members Youngblood and Cortez to serve on it. Council member David asked that item 11 be pulled from consent so the community could know who was being appointed; the motion to appoint was seconded and approved in a roll-call vote.
During public comment a resident asked whether someone from the public could be a member of the committee. Staff responded that appointed seats are reserved for elected officials to coordinate with agency partners such as the fire district and Placer County Sheriff’s Office, although members of the public are welcome to attend committee meetings. "Anyone from the public can be, but they have to be elected," a staff member said.
Council members said they looked forward to the committee’s work with agency partners and encouraged public attendance at meetings; no additional directives or funding were attached to the appointment at the meeting.
What’s next: The Public Safety Committee will begin meeting with agency partners; Council members Youngblood and Cortez will serve as the council’s appointed members.
