Summit County Health Department posts 2022 annual report in digital format

Derek, a senior health department staffer, told the Summit County Board of Health that the department has converted its 2022 annual report to a digital Prezi-style format and will publish it on the department website the day after the meeting. The presentation emphasized a streamlined, story-focused approach that highlights mission, vision and values updates and the year’s top accomplishments.

"We wanted it to be something that was easy to access online, and wasn't just clicking through again a PowerPoint," Derek said, explaining the rationale for a web-first presentation and noting the report can be exported to PDF on request. He said the report will also be shared with colleague departments and serve as a living document that staff can update as new data arrive.

Staff noted the report’s snapshot uses the most recently available census and vital-statistics numbers (to be updated in September) and that some headers and labels (for example, the presentation of median-age figures) need clarity before the public-facing release. Board members asked that future versions include side-by-side comparisons with state and national averages to give local context; Derek said staff will work with the epidemiologist to add those comparisons when updated numbers are available.

The department plans to leverage its new communications hire, Isaac Cortez, to create short social-media and newsletter clips drawn from the report to expand public reach and to make the content more engaging for residents.

The board received the presentation and had no formal vote on the report itself; Derek said the report will be posted immediately and distributed to partners.
