County park managers from Echo and Rockport State Parks asked the council to allow a one-year extension on $15,000 in restaurant-tax grant funds awarded in 2023. Park staff said ice conditions made it unsafe to hold the ice-fishing tournaments for which the grant was intended and requested the funds be used next winter. A council member moved to approve the extension so the funds can be used in winter 2024–25; the motion carried by voice vote.
Park staff then briefed council on programs and small projects. Rockport staff described returning interpretive programming including scorpion night hikes and a large May birding event, plus long-running community events such as Dam Jam. Echo staff said the park is fully open after recent construction and listed projects including installation of a fish-cleaning station, development of dry boat storage and addition of parking pullouts along Echo Dam Road. Park staff noted they will host several bass fishing tournaments that bring visitation into the county.
Councilors asked about ice conditions (Rockport still had some ice; Echo was mostly ice-free) and thanked staff for the presentations. Staff invited council to scheduled spring and fall park briefings.
