During the meeting's public-input period a resident identified as Dan Cohen told commissioners he had filed two code-enforcement complaints earlier in the year about architectural lighting in Camas Valley that he says violates county lighting regulations (section 11-6-20). Cohen said the lighting, which he described as accent and feature lighting left on all night at multiple houses and a new Oakley business, is degrading night skies and contravenes the ordinance's prohibition on architectural lighting intended to draw attention to building features.
Cohen said he provided night photos and addresses in his complaints and had corresponded with county staff (Peter Barnes and Tanya Hanson) with limited results. Staff asked Cohen to re-send the photos and addresses through staff channels; Pat said code enforcement would investigate once they receive the information.
"We passed that dark sky ordinance for a reason," the chair said, and staff acknowledged enforcement is on their radar; Pat asked Cohen to re-channel the evidence so code enforcement can act.
