Council adopts governance ordinance for Snyderville Basin Cemetery District

The Summit County Council voted unanimously on March 1 to adopt Ordinance No. 956, a governance ordinance establishing operational provisions for the Snyderville Basin Cemetery District.

Ryan Stack presented the ordinance and told the council the document mirrors governance language used for other cemetery districts in the county. He said the county’s role under this local district structure is limited to appointing a five‑member board of trustees; the district board, not the county council, would retain control over property acquisition and taxation if voters approve any tax levy. "The council doesn't retain budget oversight," Stack said.

Councilmember Molina moved to approve Ordinance No. 956 and Tanya seconded the motion. The chair called for the vote and announced the motion "carries unanimously." No amendments or conditions were recorded at the time of the vote.

The ordinance will operationalize the Snyderville Basin Cemetery District and enable the county to proceed toward appointing trustees and setting up the district’s governance structure under the terms adopted by the council.
